1.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Google Account Information: When you sign up or sign in with Google OAuth, we receive your name, email address, and Google profile picture.
- Movie and Social Activity: Attendance status, plans, invitations, ratings, likes, activity interactions, friend relationships, notification preferences, and profile information you choose to provide.
- Contact Information: If you contact us for support, we may collect your name, email address, and any other information you choose to provide.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Log files, IP address, browser type, device information, and interactions with the Service.
- Cookies & Similar Technologies: We use cookies or local storage to maintain authentication state and remember preferences. Analytics identifiers are not enabled in the initial production release.
1.3 Information From Third-Party Services
- Firebase: Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, and hosting.
- Resend: Delivery of transactional emails such as friend requests, invitations, and account notices.
- Google Analytics: Analytics is disabled for the initial production release. If a later consent-managed release enables Google Analytics 4, this notice and the in-product choice will identify the page-view, referral, browser, device, approximate-location, interaction, cookie, and similar identifier data involved before collection begins.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain the Service.
- Personalize your experience, including attendance, plans, invitations, friends, notifications, and account preferences.
- Communications: send administrative messages and optional marketing emails only if you have given explicit consent (unsubscribe link always included).
- Analytics & improvements: monitor usage, detect and prevent fraud, and improve features.
- Legal compliance: comply with applicable laws and protect our rights.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information only:
- With Service Providers (including Google Firebase, Resend for email delivery, and Google Analytics when enabled) as needed to operate, secure, communicate about, and understand use of the Service.
- For Legal Reasons: If required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MovieMan, our users, or others.
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale. You will be notified before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Your Choices and Rights
- Access & Update: Review and update your profile information at any time through your account settings.
- Export: Download a copy of your MovieMan account data from Account & Data.
- Delete Account: Permanently delete your account and associated MovieMan data yourself from Account & Data. You may also contact support@movieman.ca if you cannot access your account.
- Opt-Out of Cookies: Adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies. Some parts of the Service may not function properly without them.
- Marketing Emails: Click the “unsubscribe” link in any marketing email to opt-out.
5. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards—including HTTPS, Firestore security rules, and limited access credentials—to protect your information. No method of transmission over the Internet or storage is 100% secure; therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. International Transfers
Your information is processed in Canada and may be stored on servers located in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of information to countries outside your jurisdiction, which may have different data-protection laws.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and/or sending an email. Your continued use of the Service after any change means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
